We are looking for an experienced Optician or Optometric Assistant to join our friendly and professional eye care team. If you are passionate about patient care, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and have experience in optometry and optical dispensing, we would love to hear from you!

About the Role

As an Optician or Optometric Assistant, you will play an important role in providing an exceptional patient experience while supporting our optometrist and clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and assist patients throughout their visit
  • Perform pre-testing and diagnostic procedures
  • Take patient histories and accurately update medical records
  • Assist the optometrist during eye examinations
  • Perform testing such as OCT, visual fields, retinal imaging, and tonometry, as applicable
  • Dispense eyeglasses and assist patients with frame selection and lens recommendations
  • Take and verify measurements, including PD, segment height, and fitting measurements
  • Educate patients on lens options, coatings, frame styles, and other optical products
  • Assist with frame adjustments, fittings, repairs, and troubleshooting
  • Follow up on eyewear orders and ensure accurate delivery and patient satisfaction
  • Assist with contact lens training and insertion/removal, when required
  • Educate patients on eye health, procedures, and recommended care
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure smooth clinic workflow
  • Provide exceptional customer service and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Assist with other clinical, optical, and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience as an Optician, Optometric Assistant, Ophthalmic Assistant, Optical Assistant, or similar clinical/optical role
  • Previous optical dispensing experience is required
  • Experience with pre-testing and diagnostic equipment
  • Strong knowledge of eyewear, lenses, coatings, frame selection, measurements, and optical dispensing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team
  • Professional, friendly, and patient-focused approach
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy clinical and optical environment
  • Experience with electronic medical records and optical point-of-sale systems is an asset

We are hiring an Optician for our Calgary clinic, starting as soon as possible. This is an in-person role based on-site in Calgary. Remote and out-of-country applicants will not be considered. Requirements to apply: Current registration (or eligibility for immediate registration) with the Alberta College of Opticians Legally entitled to work in Canada, no sponsorship available Physically located in or able to commute daily to Calgary, Alberta Applicants who do not meet the Alberta licensing and Canadian work eligibility requirements above will not be reviewed.
