Optometric Assistant - Patient Care & Front Desk
Cochrane Family Vision is looking for a capable, personable Optometric Assistant to join our locally owned clinic.
This is a patient-facing role for someone who is attentive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work. You may spend more of your time performing diagnostic pretesting, working at the front desk, or possibly working in a hybrid role. We will shape the position around the successful candidate’s strengths.
Depending on your strengths and experience, your responsibilities may include:
Patient care and pretesting
- Welcome patients and explain testing procedures clearly
- Perform preliminary and diagnostic testing before eye examinations
- Gather accurate patient information and maintain complete records
- Keep patients moving through the clinic calmly and efficiently
- Prepare rooms and equipment and support the doctors as needed
Front desk and administration
- Greet patients and create a polished, welcoming first impression
- Answer phones and communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and electronically
- Schedule appointments accurately and manage changes to the day’s schedule
- Complete patient check-ins and check-outs
- Process payments and assist with insurance or benefits information
- Identify priorities and help the clinic stay organized during busy periods
Depending on your experience and interests, the position may eventually include eyewear selection, adjustments, and dispensing.
Who will succeed here
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Communicate warmly and professionally with people of all ages
- Notice details and understand that accuracy matters in patient care
- Learn new technology and procedures confidently
- Stay composed and organized when several things need attention
- Take initiative instead of waiting to be directed
- Follow through on commitments and can be relied upon by your team
- Welcome feedback and are motivated to become highly capable in your role
- Contribute to a respectful, positive workplace
Previous experience in optometry, healthcare, medical administration, hospitality, or another high-service environment is an asset. However, experience is not required if you exhibit professionalism, a great attitude, and a willingness to learn!
