At Merivale Vision Care, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care through a combination of advanced eye care technology and a welcoming, patient-focused experience. As our clinic continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Administrator to join our team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, has an interest in eye health, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment. You will play a key role in supporting our doctors and ensuring patients receive a seamless experience throughout their visit. While there will be opportunities to assist with eyewear selection and dispensing, the primary focus of this position is pre-testing, diagnostics, and supporting the overall flow of the clinic.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Administration
- Order lenses from various optical laboratories and monitor order progress
- Manage frame orders for patients and maintain accurate inventory records
- Enter new frames into inventory and assist with stock management
- Respond to patient inquiries via phone and email regarding order status, delays, and updates
- Monitor laboratory communications and proactively manage order delays
- Communicate with patients regarding expected timelines and order updates
- Perform regular order audits and status checks to identify overdue jobs
- Coordinate patient follow-up for completed or delayed orders
- Enter, reconcile, and maintain lens invoices and billing records
- Coordinate with satellite clinic locations to ensure efficient turnaround times and clear communication regarding eyewear orders
- Assist with frame purchasing and inventory management
- Complete end-of-month inventory reconciliation and reporting
Edging & Production
- Operate and maintain lens edging and finishing equipment
- Fabricate prescription and non-prescription lenses according to frame specifications
- Shape, bevel, polish, and finish lenses while maintaining quality standards
- Read and interpret lens orders accurately
- Verify lens fit, optical centration, and prescription accuracy
- Perform safety bevels, slotting, and other finishing procedures as required
- Conduct quality inspections to identify defects and ensure completed eyewear meets clinic standards
- Document production work and maintain accurate records
What We're Looking For
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication and customer service abilities
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with precision equipment
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Basic understanding of optical prescriptions, lens materials, coatings, and frame construction
- Experience in an optical laboratory, manufacturing environment, or optical clinic is considered an asset
- Certification in optical dispensing, opticianry, or optical laboratory technology is considered an asset

Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Alternating shifts between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Compensation
$19.00 – $23.00 per hour
Previous optical or clinical experience is an asset, but we are happy to train the right candidate who is passionate about patient care and eager to learn.
