Position Overview

At our clinic, we believe exceptional eye care begins with an outstanding patient experience. We are looking for a motivated, patient-focused, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Optometric Assistant / Pre-Test Technician.

In this role, you will work closely with our doctors and clinical team to support patient care through pre-testing, diagnostic imaging, patient preparation, and clinic flow. You will play an important role in ensuring patients feel comfortable, informed, and supported throughout their visit while helping our clinic operate efficiently.

What You'll Do


Clinical & Pre-Testing Responsibilities

  • Perform preliminary testing and diagnostic imaging prior to patient examinations
  • Gather patient history and accurately document information within the clinic's EMR system
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist with patient flow throughout the clinic
  • Conduct diagnostic testing including autorefraction, tonometry, retinal imaging, visual fields, OCT, and other clinical testing as required
  • Ensure all patient records are complete and up to date prior to examinations
  • Assist doctors with clinical procedures and day-to-day patient care needs
  • Maintain and prepare testing equipment and examination rooms
  • Educate patients on testing procedures and answer basic questions regarding their visit

Patient Experience

  • Welcome patients and provide a friendly, professional experience
  • Guide patients through each stage of their appointment
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients of all ages
  • Assist in creating a positive and efficient clinic environment

Administrative Support

  • Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments as needed
  • Support patient check-in and check-out processes
  • Manage patient communications via phone and email
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within the EMR system
  • Collaborate with the clinical and administrative teams to ensure efficient clinic operations

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an optometry, ophthalmology, medical office, or healthcare setting is considered an asset
  • Experience with pre-testing equipment or diagnostic imaging is preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable learning new technology and clinical procedures
  • Experience using EMR systems is considered an asset

Compensation & Schedule

  • Starting wage: $21–$23/hour, based on experience
  • Opportunity for wage review following successful completion of probation

Full-Time Schedule

  • 4 weekdays: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Wednesdays: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • 1–2 Saturdays per month: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
